$3.00 Strawberry Pie and a Strawberry Hack

It’s summer time which means strawberry time.  In our area, strawberries are finally cheap enough and sweet enough to eat in mass quantities!  Do you love strawberries?  I sure do.  My favorite strawberry hack to buy cheap strawberries is the following…. There is a website called Driscoll’s.com.  This is a link that leads to their consumer advisory panel.  You are able to give feedback on their berries at this website.  The greatest part is, they reward you for the review.  They give coupons!! They have $.50 coupons up to $.75 off one package.  You put in the code from the container and rate the berries.  The best thing for me is that sometimes, all the stars align and I can get a sale and a double coupon day and get almost free strawberries.  My local Safeway doubles coupons up to $1.00.   Usually, a couple of times a summer, I can get this deal!  Recently, they had the Driscoll’s Strawberries on sale at Walmart for $1.25.  I used a $.50 off coupon to get them for $.75 per pound.  For me, this is a great stock up price!!

I made a pie with some of my recent strawberry haul.  It is sooo yummy and super frugal.  For the pie crust, I was able to find some graham cracker crusts at the Dollar Tree.  This helps keep the cost low!

Pie 1

Here is the recipe for my $3.00 Strawberry Pie:

Ingredients:

3/4 cup of sugar

2 Tablespoons Cornstarch

1 cup water

1 pack (3 oz) of strawberry gelatin

4 cups of sliced strawberries

Pie 3

Directions:

1.  In a small pan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, and water.  Bring to a boil.  Cook and stir until thickened.  Remove from the heat source and stir in the gelatin.  Let the gelatin dissolved.  Put the mixture in the refrigerator until cool (15-20 min.)

Pie 2

2.  Arrange the strawberries in the crust.  Pour the mixture over the berries.  Refrigerate until the pie is set up.  This may take an hour or two, so you will want to plan accordingly.

This pie is super yummy and so frugal!  I hope you enjoy!
